Brohn received the Tony Award for Best Orchestrations in 1998 for Ragtime. Earlier, he was awarded New York Drama Desks Awards for his critically acclaimed orchestrations in Miss Saigon and The Secret Garden. In addition, Mr Brohn has created arrangements and orchestrations for Crazy for You, for the Royal National Theatre’s productions of Carousel, directed by Nicholas Hytner, Oklahoma! and My Fair Lady directed by Trevor Nunn as well as for the Cameron Mackintosh productions of Oliver!, directed by Sam Mendes and Martin Guerre. He was proud to provide the orchestrations for Cameron Mackintosh’s Hey Mr Producer! presented for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II at the Lyceum Theatre. Other associations have been with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-Upon-Avon for their production of The Secret Garden.
Mr Brohn’s arranging credits extend beyond the music theatre stage. Among his ballet orchestrations are those for Agnes de Mille, Twyla Tharp and Lar Lubovitch and the American Ballet Theater. His work also extends to the big screen (Anastasia, Blue Thunder, Endless Love and War Games) and to recordings for such artists as James Galway (Wind Beneath My Wings), Placido Domingo (The Broadway That I love), Jerry Hadley (Golden Days), Marilyn Horne (Lullabye),Joshua Bell (Gershwin Fantasy) (West Side Story Suite) The classic 1937 Eisenstein film Alexander Nevsky was newly adapted by him for live symphonic synchronized performance and conducted by Andre Previn at its premiere in Los Angeles in 1987. It has in turn been performed by some fifty different orchestras, and recorded by Yuri Temirkanov and the St. Petersburg Philharmonic.
